Now that Steve Carell (Date Night, Despicable Me) has left The Office television sitcom, he’s joining Keira Knightley (The Duchess) for the comedy “Seeking a Friend for the End of the World“, the film studio announced May 9.
Set in the near future, the story follows a man left alone when his wife flees as an asteroid falls toward earth. With his last days at hand, he decides to reunite with his high school sweetheart, despite his neighbor’s interference.
Screenwriter Lorene Scafaria (Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist) will also direct the film, which begins shooting this month in Los Angeles and is due in theaters next year.
Carell will star in the dramatic comedy Crazy, Stupid, Love co-starring Ryan Gosling (Valentine’s Day) and Julianne Moore (The Kids Are All Right) to be released July 29.
Knightley will appear next in David Cronenberg’s thriller A Dangerous Method with Viggo Mortensen (The Road, Hidalgo) and Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds, upcoming X-Men: First Class). (Source)
